It’s nine thirty in the evening. I have just finished eating a bowl of mixed dumplings and done with a sketch. I am sitting on the balcony hearing voices coming from the distance. It feels like a summer night, starry sky is in front of me.
I was planning for May and reflecting on April an hour ago and I just had the idea of writing an udpdate post of my life so far, my april and what’s going on. Let’s see how that goes.
What’s happening
April was by far the weirdest, most heart warming, fastest month by all means. I am so grateful for it. I wanted to write stressful as well because of the coronavirus situation but i don’t think it is the right word to describe it, for me it is not stress, it is more like a worrying or “trying to understand what is going on” kind of feeling.
April feels like a turning point in my life, so much has happened personal and work wise.
As you may know, I have been writing tutorials for a while now, in April I managed to write four in depth step by step tutorials, they are all paintings of still life objects, two of witch are in acrylics, the other two are in watercolors.
You have no idea how proud and excited I am, so excited to share them with you but I am still working on creating a few more before I put them up. I am also still searching and looking into the best way to offer these tutorials, I have few options in mind but I am still looking through them and listing the pros and cons of each. So for now I working on writing as much content as I can according to my timeline and schedule.
Some days it is taking more than i am anticipating because of you know, taking care of my baby mostly by myself for the most part, the randomness of teething issues, also getting no help in house chores anymore, the need to rest and of course,Ramadan, but it’s all going great somehow, it feels like the quarantine has put my life into order kind of.
New favorites
My absolute favorite thing these past few days was reading art magazines, I ordered around 130 issue of an old art magazine that used to be published here in Turkey and now It has become my favorite way to chill in between the busy hours. Daniel enjoys it as well, we sit in his playing area daily to take a look in an issue or two, it’s like our new bonding activity where I flip through the magazine and he just tries to touch all the images and pictures inside with all the cuteness in the world, then of course he gets bored and start playing with his toys and jar lids and I get to read a few pages.
Just like always am also enjoying listening to podcasts, whether I am washing the dishes, sketching or out for a walk, it’s there. I am even starting to think on starting a podcast myself, haha! Still not sure thought.
Anyhow, Artist/Mother podcast was one of my favorites recently.
Online courses! I’ve joined a few courses in April, mainly on principles of building a business, working under pressure, emotional intelligence related courses. Watching these lectures has been fun and relaxing activity for me to wind down after a long busy day.
Recent artwork
April brought ideas that consumed me so I put it all in my journal until i am done with this craze of painting portraits of old men.
Painting them makes me feel so calm and dreamy because as I paint, I am constantly thinking of the stories they lived and the feelings they carried within their hearts, they lived so much, they saw so much, they had to hide all of those feelings but now as they grew old, its all shown, iit is shows in their eyes. all those moment of their longs lives, it is shown in their hair that became as white as snowflakes, it is shown in their young lost soul, as pure as a pigeon building it’s nest.
I also did some experimenting, painting acrylic on cardboard, painting watercolors on a very thin drawing pad, did few sketches here and there.
I guess that’s mostly it.
Let me know what you think of similar posts, I enjoy writing and updating in here but I barely find the time anymore, days are so short and busy and the amount of times I have opened a blank page to write but got interrupted after a few minutes.. so I thought a big update by the end of the month might works better.
Hope you’re safe,
Good night,
Love reading this and I think reading similar posts each month is a great idea . It’s inspiring somehow, not only to paint but to experience new things, to learn and improve myself as well.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts here.
Have a great days and stay safe
