Why I made an Art Zine?
If you anything like and LOVE the concept of taking a look into some other artist’s sketches and thoughts while creating, I feel like you’d be inspired by this. Ever since I started this art journey I have been so motivated when looking at completed sketchbooks, wether they were mine or others, I just love love flipping through them! So in 2014 I decided that I want one of my sketchbooks to be printed, i wanted to make it available to as many people as possible so they can be inspired,even a little, by it. I completed a tiny art book under the name “Happened upon birds meeting” and it was then that I started my online shop to sell it. I remember going to local cafes and leaving it there in hope of people would pick it up and read into. Even though the whole experience was something dear to my heart, the book itself was a disappointing in term of printing, The printing house I worked with back then didn’t meet my expectations and it was the only thing that kept me so long from printing another one.
The process
Now, am back with two more zines, the same concept but, handmade. I sat with my sister ( whom without her help this whole thing may not be have been done) and planned the whole thing. We made each and single one of these 80 copies from scratch, starting by choosing the paper, then came the scanning followed by the designing of each spread. Then the printing and cutting the bleeds of each spread,which is always the scariest part! Finishing off wth the binding and packaging. Each and every single page containing a sketch, a feeling, a thought, a memory ,or a a song, was made with love and passion.
The first Zine “Painted stories” comes in colors.
18.5×13.5 cm in size. 18 pages filled with random sketches from my latest sketchbook, some thoughts and a music playlist. Named this way because each sketch painted have a story of its own, maybe shared or kept hidden in my heart, it definitely makes me feel something.
The other Zine is “Inktober 2017” comes in black and white.
19x14cm in size, 32 pages made out of all my inktober sketches in black and white, each page is dated and captioned.
